Lead Teacher (Infants)
Reports To: Center Director / Assistant Director
Position Type: Full-time or Part-time
Position Summary:
The Infant Teacher is responsible for creating a warm, safe, and nurturing environment for infants (ages 6 weeks to 1 year old) that promotes their physical, emotional, cognitive, and social development. The teacher will implement age-appropriate activities, maintain health and safety standards, and build positive, trusting relationships with both infants and their families.
Key Responsibilities:
Classroom Management & Caregiving
Provide consistent, attentive, and responsive care to each infant, including feeding, diapering, napping, and comforting.
Follow each child’s individual schedule and support their developmental milestones.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom that complies with all licensing and health regulations.
Monitor and document daily routines, behaviors, and developmental progress.
Curriculum & Learning
Plan and implement engaging, age-appropriate activities that support early brain development, motor skills, language acquisition, and sensory exploration.
Create a stimulating environment that encourages curiosity, bonding, and interaction.
Observe and assess infants to tailor learning experiences that meet their unique needs.
Family Engagement
Communicate regularly and professionally with parents/guardians about their child’s daily activities, growth, and development.
Develop strong, respectful relationships with families and support a collaborative caregiving partnership.
Participate in parent-teacher conferences and provide developmental updates as needed.
Team Collaboration
Work collaboratively with co-teachers and other staff to create a cohesive, supportive team.
Attend staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
Support the overall goals and values of the childcare center.
Health & Safety
Follow all safety, sanitation, and emergency procedures as required by state licensing.
Ensure constant supervision of infants, maintaining appropriate teacher-to-child ratios.
Administer basic first aid when necessary and report incidents or concerns to the Center Director.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; CDA (Child Development Associate) credential or Early Childhood Education coursework preferred.
Must meet state licensing requirements for infant care teachers, including background check, TB test, and required immunizations.
CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Experience working with infants in a licensed childcare setting preferred.
Warm, nurturing personality with a genuine love for infants and early childhood education.
Strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
